My position is clear. Building in any high fire hazard zone will certainly increase fire and public safety risk. There are at least 18 communities in Calabasas with limited ingress/egress in emergency situations. The 101 freeway is designated as a main evacuation route, however, during the Woolsey fire it was closed in both directions at times, trapping residents.

Calabasas also has a problem with cell reception that’s impacted by the topography. A reliable method of conveying information during emergencies is critical. I propose working with CERT members in our community to create more localized neighborhood networks to keep residents informed during emergencies.

Prior to being elected to the Calabasas City Council, I served on the Calabasas Public Safety Commission. Working alongside City Councilmember Alicia Weintraub, we spearheaded the Flock Camera System (ALPR) Advanced License Plate Recognition for the safety of all Calabasas residences.

This system identifies vehicles that have been associated with criminal activity. Its findings help deter crime, accelerate police response time, and provide supportive evidence to prosecute criminals.

As a Councilmember, I have taken Fire Safety one step further. Alicia and I serve on the AI Flame Detection Cameras Ad Hoc Committee. These cameras can detect a flame ignition within 6” of the surface and dispatch alerts to CAL Fire instantly. Dramatically improving response time to fire ignition and reducing potential fire disasters by early incidence dispatch.

Respect and encourage residents to voice their concerns.

Residents are at the top of the City of Calabasas organizational chart. 

We should be the top priority.

Our city government should be for the residents. We deserve a say in the development and planning of our city.

Public participation is essential to good government. I want every resident to know I’m here to listen. You will be heard.

Both our boys went to local public schools – Chaparral, A. E. Wright and Calabasas High School. They both went on to college with the solid education the LVUSD gave them.

It’s one of the big reasons why we moved here. It’s the reason the next wave of families moved here. The campuses of the schools my boys attended look a lot different now. Over the years the LVUSD has had to change with the times to continue to provide a top class education.

Supporting our local schools is an investment in our community and our kids’ futures.

Fire risk is the biggest public safety problem in Calabasas.

“Only one way out” emergency evacuation routes intensify that problem.

It just makes sense to consider fire risk in development decisions. 

That’s what I’ve been doing these past four years and will continue to do if re-elected.

Open space is there to be enjoyed by all of us and the wildlife. It’s a home to plants and a place for streams to meander.

I support our City Council’s efforts to uphold our Municipal Codes that protect it. 

Taking our environment into consideration is responsible development.

Our city relies on taxes that we all pay and grant money from state and federal programs to operate. It’s a business like most other businesses. One of the jobs of a City Councilmember is to ensure budget forecasts and expenditures are accurate and warranted.

My experience as a business owner/operator and as an Investment Advisor qualifies me for that job.

Finding creative solutions keeps a business current and financially healthy.

That is my strong suit and the approach I’ll take to every problem.

How our money is spent should be readily available to us, in easily understood language.

Residents should be able to actively participate in city government. Greater use could be made of the city’s Commissions to research, report and make recommendations on issues within their specific area of oversight to the City Council.

I support continuing online access to City Council and Planning Commission meetings. It allows residents to participate from their homes or on-the-go using mobile devices. Transparency is a vital component of good government and strong communities. It promotes accountability. Sharing crucial information with the community and making this information quick and easy to find builds trust and demonstrates integrity.
